THE NEW HMO POLICY NEEDS TO BE MADE STRONGER
We have campaigned long and hard with Uplands residents to make the councils proposed HMO policy stronger for residents. They didn't listen to the majority of our request. Now that it is here, the results show that it needs improving when it is reviewed in 2020. We are actively campaigning with you to get the council to listen next time.
MORE HMOS ARE STILL BEING PUMPED INTO THE UPLANDS WARD
HERE ARE SOME RECENT DECISIONS
The planning committee are still passing HMO applications in the Uplands ward because the policy is too weak. Landlords are now making intelligent applications to exploit the holes in the policy that we alerted the council to at the time.
EXPLOITING A LOOPHOLE
We warned the planner when they were making the policy that if you apply for an HMO near to flats. We warned that nearby flats would lower artificially lower the percentage and allow the HMO. The council didn't listen and carried on regardless.
MOVING THE PROBLEM AROUND
The policy has not solved the problem, it has just moved it around the Uplands Ward. We asked for a reduced percentage buffer zone to mitigate this. Again, we were ignored.
ALSO A MISTAKE HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE WITH THE SUMS
An HMO has already been wrongly allowed due to a mistake. We have asked a formal question to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
