LOVE OUR LANES

IMPROVING OUR WALKING NETWORK

Uplands Ward has many lanes that are can be used as short cuts or pleasant walking alternatives to the roads. Our objective is to improve the standard of them by taking various practical measures. We also assist fellow residents who are interested in helping to make them a better place. Below are examples of the action that we take.

BRINGING LANES BACK INTO PEDESTRIAN USE

HANOVER LANE -BEFORE

The lane was suffering from overhanging foliage making sections of the footpath unusable. The kerb was blocked with earth and leaves which trapped water. The drains were buried under the mud.

HANOVER LANE - AFTER

Overhang removed, footpath fully functional, clear drains and dry feet. A walking route has now been reinstated.

CLEARING THE DRAINS

We have been concentrating on clearing drains in lanes. The team has to work hard as these drains are inaccessible by the truck. This is why they are often overlooked. They had to be hand dug with the soil bagged up and carried to the truck. Here is a video of a clearance session so you can see what was involved.

This continues our project to get our back lanes cleaner and more walkable.

RESTORING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Front Garden Competition

We have introduced a Best Back Lane category for our annual Front Garden Competition. Last years winner was the path linking Parc Wern Road and Glanmor Park Road (pictured). A tremendous effort was made to brighten up the space which was pleasing for passers by.
