ELECTRIC CHARGING POINTS FOR UPLANDS

A growing trend

Our survey in 2018 indicated that residents were starting to consider or had purchased an electric vehicle. Residents also offered suggestions about where charging points could be. Since then we have had a steadily growing interest in the issue. We would like to see a network of public charging points develop in the Uplands Ward. This page is to keep you informed of progress on the issue and we will update it as and  when there is further news.

Where are the charging points at the moment?

At the moment they are just nearly 40 public charging points in the Swansea Council area. They are principally in supermarket car parks, car dealerships and council car parks. At the moment there are none in the Uplands Ward.

The council did apply to the Welsh Government for a grant to install one in the Uplands shopping area last year but was turned down. They will be looking to make further applications.  A full list of charging points in Swansea can be accessed here. It is a good site which also lists the availability and power of the charger. It  is also regularly updated.

Where in Uplands?

Feedback from the 2018 survey gave some ideas for locations:

  • Shopping centres (Uplands, Brynymor Rd, Bernard St)
  • Near to parks (Knoll Avenue, Park Drive)
  • Walter Road (by St James' church)
  • Car park opposite Patti Pavillion (Gorse Lane)
  • Allocated bays in residential streets

We would also like to hear your further suggestions as we explore different ways of funding them to get the project off the ground in Uplands.
